The August edition of Anthropologie‘s catalog features “real people” instead of models.
I love that.
Kinda takes the pressure off of all of us “real” women (and men), if only for a brief moment. Wouldn’t it be grand if magazines and clothing companies did this more often? It might help us all expand our definitions of “beauty”.
Like I’ve said before, I would live in an Anthropologie store if they’d let me. Sadly, they won’t let me.

Hm…Well, at least they said "real" people, not "average" people, 'cause those people photographed there appear on the petite side!

I like looking at real people as opposed to leggy women I will never look like in my 5'1" frame. Sigh.
Was there much diversity in the catalog?

Although not perfect in their interpretation of "real" people, I like where they're going with the whole concept. I feel like real also covers aspects like race, age, etc. I think there were one or two un-skinny girls in the catalog, a few non-Caucasian looking faces, and one lady who wasn't in her twenties. So, not a super diverse sampling by any means, but a start, I guess. 🙂

@J. Darling: The only 2 pictures I could download were the ones I put up – and those peeps look like models! Haha! Oh well.
@Mo: See my comment above. I really wish they had featured even more diversity!

Ah! That makes sense! Walmart uses real employees in their ads too! Companies could save a lot of money – and appeal to a lot more people- by continuing this trend! 🙂

Love that you posted this! I had a similar post about it – was powerful to me too.

@Morgan: Sweet! I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed it. Thanks for stopping by my 'ol blog.
