Thank you guys for your well wishes on my last post! Your kind words always mean so much. Seriously. Thankfully, I am feeling better today.
Since I spent a lot of time over the weekend bedridden, I watched an obscene amount of TV. (Yes, even more than usual, which by any stretch of the imagination, is obscene.)
When I am not feeling well or I’m down or I’m having a particularly bad day, I tend to revert back to my old favorite shows; my comfort shows, if you will. I define comfort shows as this: (a) They always make me feel better (b) I usually watch the show if I am randomly scrolling and see it is on (c) I watch the same episodes over and over again without the threat of boredom.
At the risk of seeming like a total loser hermit, here are some of my comfort shows:
The Golden Girls. I might have the DVD boxed set.

Sex and the City. I definitely have the DVD boxed set. Collector’s edition with bonus scenes. I prefer the late 90’s episodes when they made fashion errors and Carrie’s apartment was nothing to write home about.

Law and Order, particularly Law and Order SVU or Criminal Intent. Although vintage Law and Orders are also quite appealing, as well as any episode including Benjamin Bratt.

Brothers and Sisters. I stole the DVD boxed set from my mom.

Also, don’t judge, but sometimes I watch cartoons. I think when I’m not feeling 100% I just want to be comforted by my mom and surrounded by my favorite things. Grilled cheese and tomato soup served on a tray in bed. A warm blanket. A fluffed up pillow. My favorite TV shows. Like when I was a kid.
Do you have any comfort shows?
More Than Rubies
Full House. The Cosby Show. I also have comfort movies that I can watch over and over again: Legally Blonde. Love Actually. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Anne of Green Gables.
Nikkiana
Two and a Half Men. Coupling. The Golden Girls. The Muppet Show. Sesame Street. I literally could spend days on end watching Sesame Street clips on YouTube.

I've never seen the golden girls but I have a feel that I must. I love watching loads of Seinfeld episodes when I'm sick (and the cosby show), but I'll also watch Lord of the Rings extended edition or Harry Potter. 🙂
glad you're feeling better!

I so get this! I credit Monk (and my therapist) for getting me through a particularly rough bout of illness-induced anxiety. My husband knows that when the anxiety begins to creep in that there will be many many hours of Monk in our future.
The West Wing, Psych, Bridget Jones, and 30 Rock are also comforting favorites.

SVU is my total comfort show! In fact, I'm watching it right now 🙂

When I am sick I love to watch the original Parent Trap movie and Wizard of Oz, when I was a kid I loved watching those and once the VHS tapes I had were extinct I bought the DVD's for an emergency case!

I'm glad you're feeling better. 🙂 Even if we don't know each other IRL, even if we haven't commented on each others' blogs for a while, always know that I'm praying for you guys.
To answer your question, my comfort shows are: Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, The Office, and House. Oh, and SATC and Buffy the Vampire Slayer…crap I just realized I have A LOT of comfort shows! I guess any of my old-time favorites that I can watch over and over again?

I'm with you on all of those! I also love Murder She Wrote, Start Trek The Next Generation, and really LONG fantasy movies when I'm not feeling well (Lord of the Rings, Narnia movies, Stardust). I have a few of my favorite cartoons on DVD as well. Disney movies always help. Ducktales on DVD helped me get through 6 weeks of a bad case of shingles (on my face no less! Ouch!)

I so do this too. I love Law and Order SVU, Sex and the City, Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek and reruns of America's Next Top Model. If I'm bravek I will watch Criminal Minds but if I'm home alone, I can't do it. Josh teases me relentlessly about my taste in TV but I really don't care.

Comfort TV is the best! I always watch Gilmore Girls when I'm not feeling well. 🙂

YES! i totally have a comfort regime that i follow on my far too frequent sick days. SATC, HIMYM, Modern Family, and old RZP episodes are my go-tos when i'm feeling less than stellar. so glad to hear you are feeling better 🙂

Comfort Tv. Ahh how I love thee! & I love all these shows you listed. I watch waaaaay too much TV. I always turn to One Tree Hill and Grey's Anatomy. Probably because they are the two shows I have DVDs for.
Glad you are feeling better!! <3
