Lately, I haven’t been too vigilant with my fitness goals. I guess I assumed that magically, with the pressure of our pending wedding, I would somehow become a work out machine. Never really happened. Oh well, I’m not going to punish myself now.

I noticed that a large portion of my day is spent sitting in front of my computer. Day in and day out, I sit with my shoulders slumped, and sometimes I think I can actually see my butt expanding. Anyhoo, I bought a little gizmo (a.k.a. a pedometer), so that now I have solid proof of my inactivity, and I can’t fool myself into believing that a simple trip to the bathroom counts as “cardio”.

I ordered this pedometer off of Amazon.

I love it. It’s easy to set up and has all of the functions I could ever need. (There are also fancier versions of this pedometer, too. The fancier versions plug into your computer and help you track your fitness. I’m not there yet, but still that’s pretty sweet!) So far, things have been going well. The accountability has been phenomenal. I am much more aware of how much I am moving throughout the day. I know when it’s early evening, and I’m still at 5,000 steps that I need to take the dog for a walk or Shred it. I’m also setting goals and trying to get in more steps then the day before. I’ve used the chart below as a guide in trying to avoid being considered a “sedentary” 28 year old. Classification of pedometer-determined physical activity in healthy adults

under 5000 steps/day = sedentary lifestyle
5000-7499 steps/day = low active
7500-9999 steps/day = somewhat active
10000 steps/day = active
>12000 steps/day = highly active

At times, I feel like a bit of an old fart walking around with this strange pager-looking object sticking out of my pant pocket. But in the end, I like knowing what I’m doing (or not doing).

Do you use a pedometer or any other training equipment to keep track of your fitness? Has it helped you?

I used to use a pedometer! They work great and give you an actual goal! You should try taking the stairs all the time up and down if you work in a big building or even if you are shopping at the mall. This will help with your fitness!

I haven’t used one but I have debated it – looking forward to seeing how it works for you!

I have one but future hubby stole it so I guess I should purchase another one so that I can use it! Haha!

When I was able to use it I love it! It made me a lot more aware. I would take extra bathroom breaks just so that I could up the numbers on the pedometer. Good luck and I hope you like it!
