L started a new job this week. Despite his newbie status, his firm has generously extended an invitation for us to attend the company holiday party this weekend. We are delighted they will even have a party given the current state of the U.S. economy. Check out this article from the L.A. Times. Basically, it explains the need for the corporate world to tone it down a notch with the parties (some are nixing them all together). Yes, folks, the economy has affected the ever-present holiday party. Everyone run for cover.

With all of that said, the thought of scurrying out and buying a new outfit for the occasion seems rather wasteful and ridiculous. In my younger days, I was foolish and known to spend money I didn’t have on new outfits for dressy events. But honestly, I’ve got a closet full of suitable clothes that no one at the party will have ever seen me in, because I have never met any of them. And furthermore, I’m saving my money for holiday gifts for family and friends. I have a few dresses in mind for the party this weekend. They’re oldies, but goodies.
