L and I have had a long standing battle about a very important subject…Crocs. He has been an instant lover of these funny, plastic-like shoes since the moment he slipped them on his feet a couple years ago. Being true to form, I have been a bit indecisive about jumping on the Crocs bandwagon. “But they are sooo comfortable!” is the line I kept hearing from L. “But they look soooo…odd!” is the line he kept hearing from me. This back and forth continued for some time. For those that aren’t familiar with the traditional Crocs style, by odd, I mean they look like this:
Fine for getting the paper on Sunday morning or gardening or watching the game with the guys. Not fine for date night, upscale restaurants and other assorted public places.
Fast forward to about a month ago. We were doing some window shopping in Little Tokyo near downtown L.A. (which, by the way, has become quite the posh little area…what the heck? Goodbye, homeless hangout areas…Hello, trendy lofts and chain stores). But anyway, with no intention to buy anything that day, I couldn’t help but feast my eyes on some cuties I saw hanging from a display cart. Before I could check my size, L revealed the painful truth…they were CROCS!!
How could this be? They didn’t look like the Crocs I knew and disliked. These graceful goodies looked more like ballerina slippers. Just to prove it to you, I am providing picture evidence:
See? Not so bad, right? They are called the malindi by Crocs. I bought them that day and it just so happens that (yes, L, you win) I love them. They are so comfortable, look great with jeans and mostly cover my toes. What more could a casual girl like me ask for? Well, I’m going to take it to a new level and add that I might even have to wear them as dancing shoes at the reception. Why go out and buy another pair of $5 flip flops to add to my collection, when I can wear my new favorite malindis? Such difficult decisions. What about you? Were you like L and quick to love Crocs? Or like me and slow to be proven wrong? 🙂
Krista
I don’t own any crocs, but I have heard they are comfortable. I don’t know if I will ever own any. I wouldn’t fault you for wearing those crocs, though.
