I came across this company, Rent the Runway, while skimming through the latest In Style Magazine. I’m intrigued. Founded by two Harvard MBAs, it’s a website that acts as an online rental shop for designer dresses. (Think like Bag, Borrow, or Steal…but for dresses instead of purses). For a rental fee, that is a fraction of the retail price, an uber-expensive dress can be yours for a night or two. I see it as a bit like the modern day version of buying a dress, keeping the tags on, and returning it later…except without the tackiness and guilt you might feel after doing it. (By the way, I’ve never done that. Seriously.) The NY Times calls it the Netflix of Haute Couture. There’s a shop near our house where you can rent designer wedding dresses. I have known women who have done this. Even though it makes so much sense, financially, I couldn’t bring myself to rent such an important dress. That’s just me.But a party dress? That’s a whole different ball game. Think about all the dresses we purchase for events like weddings? After the fact, they sit in our closet, and are rarely worn again. Or I would’ve loved to choose my engagement pictures outfit from a collection of designer gowns! Ladies who still need to take e-pics, check out this site!Hmmm, now this begs the question, does anyone want to invite me to a super cool event? One where I could wear aforementioned killer frock to? My life is kind of boring at the moment. What do you think – will this business concept stick? Would you rent a designer dress?

I would have loved this for not only engagement pics but also showers, and the rehersal dinner! I don't have any up coming events that I could wear a pretty dress to either…but i'll have to keep this website in mind!

They should let you see some of the selection without having to sign up! I hate having to give out my email address for things I'm not sure I'm going to be into.
