Here are a few semi-amusing encounters I’ve had related to being a blogger.

L and I went to a local lot to get our Christmas tree (no, we don’t live near a Christmas tree farm and therefore we don’t cut down our own tree. Wish we could!) Anyway… I asked L to bring our camera, as I often do now when we leave the house. Hey, you never know when a future blog post will present itself, right?

So we get to the lot and start taking pictures of the trees, and the lights, and well, everything. The young guys working on the lot were totally giving us weird looks. Granted, they were a pack of high school boys and probably roll their eyes at mostly everything. But I felt a wee bit…silly. I mean, we didn’t have any little kiddies or cute puppies with us or anything. It was just the two of us taking pictures of…each other and Christmas trees with our big DSLR. I felt like telling them, “The pictures are for my BLOG!” Somehow I don’t think it would’ve helped matters.

Awhile back, I was eavesdropping on a conversation in the Banana Republic dressing room between two young women. They were conversing loudly about the purpose of Twitter. One girl was like, “Twitter is so creepy and narcissistic. Why would I want people to know what I’m doing at all times?” And the other girl was like, “I dunno. I kinda like it.” Awkward silence.

I have noticed that people that don’t write or read blogs find the act of blogging baffling and, in some cases, weird. A friend of mine was like, “Why would people you don’t know want to see you do anything?” Rather offended, I replied, “I dunno. I kinda like it.” Awkward silence.

As bloggers, do we live in our own world or something?

By the way, Christmas tree pics coming soon. 😉

Yes, we live in our own world. And I think I had the same conversation about blogging this morning with a friend. And recently my Mom asked what a blog was? She has no idea I write one for obvious reasons.

I always feel weird taking pictures in restaurants. I feel like ppl look at you funny when you take pictures of your food… and I'm pretty sure they are. Most of my friends know about my blog know so they don't thinks it's weird, but strangers do.
I recently took a cake decorating class and another girl in the class asked if it was alright if we took pictures. She and I immediately bonded over the fact that we are both bloggers and exchanged websites. Everyone else (including the teacher) thought we were weird :-/
I love blogging! I think I've learned a lot about myself from my writing and reading other's blogs. I've also 'met' some pretty incredible ppl I would never have met any other way 🙂

Hahaha! I had a similar response from one of my bridesmaids (who is six years younger than me), "Why would anyone want to tell the world about herself?" She also doesn't have a personal email account and thinks facebook is a blog. Awkward.

I'm also a blog convert and didn't previously understand the appeal. I think it's the same reason why I tend to read a lot of human interest articles. I love the personal touch, peek, or story and the sense of community.

My friends don't really do it and I don't share my blog with them, but I kinda like it too.

I think bloggers definitely live in their own world. I think this is partially because it DOES affect a lot of your life (must always take a camera everywhere!) Also, it just takes up a lot of time and thought and effort. It's a consuming hobby!

@Chic 'n Cheap Living: I don't really share my blog with friends either. I like it that way. I almost feel like I can write more openly because of it.
@Penny: Blogging is SO time-consuming! Especially because I don't really write posts in one shot. I always go back and edit them. I agree, it takes a lot of effort.
@Roganista: There are still people out there that are not on Facebook?! 🙂
@Olivia Rae: I love blogging, too! It took me awhile. I kept starting and stopping. But then I eventually committed to it, and I can't stop!
@Ali: My husband wants to start a food blog. We always feel a little self-conscious taking pictures of our food!!
@Sugar: My mom was similarly baffled by blogs! She knows I have one, and she knows about Weddingbee. But otherwise, I'm not sure she understands what it's all about.

Yes totally in our own world. My MIL once said to me, "I just don't get your whole blogging "thing". It's so self-centered."

This is after I told her I recently posted pictures of our new house so that my Mom who lives 10 hours away could see it.

I have stopped trying with those non-blog folks 🙂
