Hi Readers,I rarely ever pose technical questions about the blog (probably because my knowledge of the subject is embarrassingly minimal). But I consider this blog a constantly evolving project, and want to continue to improve upon it. Question: What do you think about the follow me/followers textbox displayed in the sidebar? Useful? Interesting? Good/bad? It’s always nice to see who follows your blog and who your bloggy friends are. I don’t know about you, but when I get a new follower, I’m like, “Yes! They like me!” Not to mention, its presence urges visitors to join in on the fun and follow you! On the other hand, follower counts can be deceiving and not indicative of your actual following. Some of my favorite blogs (which many are quite popular) don’t have follower sections and they do just fine.What do you think? When you visit a blogger blog, do you peek at the followers box? Is it useful to you?

For some reason I never really got into the whole "follow" thing… I subscribe in google reader to all my favorite blogs (including yours!). Is there any benefit to officially "following" them too?

I don't care for the follower thing. I had it for a bit and then I deleted it. I can keep track of how many have me on google reader and that's good enough for me.

I like it because I like checking out new blogs through followers of other blogs I like. Follwoes of my favorite blgos have led me to a lot of really great blogs, so yes I enjoy it.

About once/week, I look at my own blog's details and get giddy when the subscriber number has gone up!

Thank you all for weighing in on this. Initially, I thought about getting rid of my follower box, because I wanted to reduce clutter in my side bar. Also, like many of you, I didn't understand the purpose of it. Although Newport Nuptials, you make a good point about finding other great blogs to read by looking at others' follower boxes! I'm still not sure if I'll keep it or not, but your opinions help. Thanks everyone!

i follow blogs that i read on regularly/subscribe to, it makes it easy to keep track of my blog friends that way. the followers box i do notice, since it helps with who the audience it, but it's not definitive or anything.
