Ever since we got hitched, the subject of moving seems to be at the forefront of many conversations. Both Lawrence and I are born and bred L.A. natives. I never thought much of my home city. I took it for granted like an angsty teen might take advantage of their parents’ love. I left the nest at 18 and didn’t return until I was 26. I sometimes miss Massachusetts, D.C., New York, and several other spots on the east coast. Once I got back to L.A., my heart often felt empty and longed for what I no longer had. (I realize now that much of my longing had more to do with the memories attached to those places, rather than the places themselves. But I digress.) Being back in L.A. for the past two years has been good for me. Don’t get me wrong – I still complain about the traffic, the smog, and the wannabe pretentious people, like any good Angeleno would. But these are my roots. Even if one day we move away, this place is my home. Always was, always will be.

Pictures of Santa Monica and the coastline. Taken by my love.
Do you love where you live? Why?
Have a happy weekend, friends! Enjoy yourselves.

I've never moved away from my hometown… well 20 mins away isnt considered far. I love where I lived and we just purchased a house… but theres this feeling I want more.

I would love to move far, europe, states or even down south… I have a job which would allow me to do this… but im also chicken shit and the thought of leaving my family… doesnt sit well. But who knows… I might just do it… in a couple of years.

I was not born in L.A but i have lived here since i was 5 y/o. L.A is my home and I can't imagine myself living somewhere else and neither can the hubs. I agre, we take it for granted because there is just so much to see that we havent already in 20+ years.. I love L.A but sometimes hate the heat!! But this is our home.

I was born in Nicaragua but have lived in Southern CA since I was 3, & I love living in L.A, my parents & brothers are here so I would be sad to not live close to them but there are times when I want to at least for a year or more live in NY just to experiance it. My fiancee is originally from Boston & has lived in L.A for the last 10 years, when we met we both talked about how we lived in L.A for so long but don't take advantage of everything L.A has to offer, so we decided to be tourist & it's really incredible all the places & events that are available in L.A once you don't take it for granted. I think it's so wonderful that you have gotten to experiance living in the East & West Coast 🙂

I am, perhaps, the wrong person to comment on this post. I've lived here in L.A. for almost 7 years and I'm ready to go. I've had fun, but the longer I'm here the less it seems like a good fit for me. Where would we go? I'm not sure yet.

    Great post, Carly.
I live in San Diego, but I'm originally from northern California and I lived in New York for a year. From 2000 to 2006, I lived in 5 different cities. I like San Diego, but I definitely don't love it the way I do my home up north where my family lives, because that's where my roots are, just like L.A. is home for you.
We're here for 8 years while the boy finishes school, and then after that? Who knows? Maybe I'll join you in L.A. =)

It was fun to read about where everyone's roots are! Thanks for commenting on this post.

@ Mo: 8 years?! Mr. Pink Argyle must be one smart cookie – that's a lot of schooling 🙂 I love it up north, and I'd love to live there!

I've spent almost equal time living in Malaysia and Australia now. I remembered missing my friends and the way of life in Malaysia so much while growing up here… it was just so different! But now, I love it here and can't see myself back in Malaysia so I guess Australia is home to me. For now. We're planning to move to the UK in a few years and who knows how long we'll be there. Maybe that will eventually be home for me.

I live in Las Vegas and was raised in San Francisco: half my life there, half my life here. My husband was born and raised in Las Vegas and is dying to live somewhere else for 6 months out of the year to get away from the awful heat. But, like you said, home (Las Vegas) will always be home.
