We finally made the trek to Hansen’s Bakery this weekend to pick out our wedding cake. Hansen’s Bakery holds a special place in my heart because (a) it’s an L.A. landmark (they’ve been in the business for seven generations!) and (b) my mom bought my first birthday cake at Hansen’s. Awwww.

I had two simple criteria going into it. The cake had to look old school and vintage-esque and taste super yummy. I think we’ve achieved both goals, and can I just say, I am in LOVE.

I have a teaser picture of our chosen cake’s “floor model” for you (yes, they had models of their cakes displayed all around the bakery).

I was surprised at how giddy I got about the cake. Honestly, heading into this process, it wasn’t a big deal to me. But I was like a different person in the bakery. You would’ve thought I won the lottery or something.

Did you surprise yourself and get excited about a planning detail that originally didn’t excite you?

That does feel like something from at least 100 years ago.

I didn’t much care about the cake one way or the other but my husband planned out what it should look like and he started to get really super excited to see his plans come to fruition. Luckily they exceeded both of our expectations.

I can’t believe you are getting you cake from Hanson’s! 🙂
I had to comment today to tell you I thought about it. I read the Tori Spelling book Storitelling….and am now reading Mommywood. She talks about how every year as a child, she got her birthday cake from Hanson’s. When she had her own kids…she makes a point of getting a cake from Hanson’s. I heard that and thought of you. You are getting your cake from this famous place. So cool! Fancy Schmancy 😉
