Sorry for the vulgar post title, but I’m guessing I got your attention!

I want to talk about wedding band engraving, and I can’t help but reference the sometimes forgettable, but kinda cute movie, License to Wed. For those of you unfamiliar with this flick, John Krasinski and Mandy Moore star as a soon-to-be married couple who face all kinds of challenges trying to get “licensed to wed” by their officiant (Robin Williams). There is a small part where John goes to the jeweler to pick up the wedding band he had engraved for Mandy. Upon closer inspection of the finished ring, John notices that instead of engraving his desired phrase, “Never to Part”, the jewelers inscribed, “Never to Fart”. You can view the funny clip here. For some reason, the website wouldn’t let me embed the clip.

Mr. G and I love the idea of engraving our rings. We know couples that have engraved thoughtful and meaningful phrases into their rings: wedding dates, song lyrics, bible verses, private nicknames, and the list goes on. We have grappled with our chosen inscription. We knew we wanted the same phrase in both rings. We also knew we wanted something that we could admire time and again. At first we thought of inscribing “To Us”, because its what we always say to each other when we clink glasses and do a toast when out at dinner alone. Yes, we can be a bit cheesy. 🙂

But then, one day I was listening to my iPod, and one of our favorite songs came on. The song was Corinne Bailey Rae’s Like A Star. I knew right away that I had found our inscription.
I relayed my idea to Mr. G and he instantly loved it. The inside of our rings will be graced with the phrase, “Honor to Love You” with our wedding date. I suppose if we were English like Corinne Bailey Rae, it would read, “Honour to Love You”…but either way, it’s delightful and perfect for our inscription.

Do you plan to engrave a meaningful phrase into your wedding bands? If so, what will you write?

    I enjoyed the clip.

I want to get the ring engraved, but I’m not sure what. I’m thinking something uber-traditional like “omni vincit amor” (love conquers all). Or else something really cute “love you forever” (the title of the robert munsch book).

That phrase is beautiful and I love her music.

I actually hadn’t thought much about an inscription. As a matter of fact, we haven’t even talked abo0ut rings. So…..I guess I have some catching up to do. But once we make a decision, I’ll be sure to share. Thanks for the inspiration.
