L and I took his out-of-town coworker to lunch and a walking tour of the Santa Monica Pier and Promenade shopping area on Sunday. The wind was out in full force (seriously, it was crazy), but we weren’t deterred! It was fun because we got to live like tourists for an afternoon (how utterly un-“L.A.” of us).

We strolled past an exhibit on the beach in honor of Veterans Day. It was a powerful reminder to never forget those that have given their lives for our country and for our freedom; and also to continue to pray for the safe return of those serving overseas.

Each cross represents one fallen soldier.

There were messages posted on most of the crosses. One that stood out to me was a “Happy 27th Birthday” message from a wife to her husband.

By mid-afternoon, the clouds began to move in and the sky looked quite ominous. This is a shot of the famous ferris wheel on the pier.

Here’s a last photo to lighten the mood. I think this one exhibits the whole “We think we are hilarious, but no one else is laughing” syndrome I referred to in a previous post. (Also check out my hairdo, yikes!…evidence that it was indeed quite windy out.)

It looks quite windy! Your hair is blowing – I’m surprised L’s hat didn’t come off!
