Dude. What the F happened to Kate Gosselin? Somewhat slowly and sneakily, she has become permanently surprised.

When I saw this picture on Usmagazine.com, I couldn’t believe what she has done to herself. She used to be so cute. Sure, the effects of this botched Botox job will go away in a few months, but will she learn from this? I hope so.

This is your face (left). This is your face on Botox (right). Any questions?

I felt compelled to post this because I used to watch Jon and Kate Plus 8 religiously. I loved that show so, so much. And I also want to talk about Botox.

This picture leads me to wonder, “What is so wrong with wrinkles?” I understand wanting to look your best, and feel refreshed, but why does our society feel the need to get rid of every.single.wrinkle. (I also read in the same sitting that Kim Kardashian who is like 29 years old has tried Botox, too. WTF?)

I was watching The Today Show awhile back. I remember seeing Meredith Vieira doing an interview.

This is going to sound horrible, but I thought to myself, “Damn she looks old. What happened to her?” You want to know what happened to her? She got a little older and she DIDN’T get Botox. I was so jaded in my perception of what “getting older” actually looks like that I was shocked when I saw a few wrinkles on television. Don’t get me wrong, I think Meredith is a beautiful woman. That’s why I find my reaction to be so pathetic.

Anyone else think society is especially harsh on aging women? Or in more important news – what the heck is up with Kate Gosselin?!

It's like our view of normal is just not normal anymore–I am right there with you. It's like some crazy universe where all the other women are going to have botox, and the ones who don't are going to look like the freaks. She looks scary, by the way. And Jon and Kate Plus 8 was a great show.

SO TRUE! I think society is RIDICULOUSLY hard on women of any age just about, starting at the tween years. Women in general aren't encouraged to be their beautiful selves. We are constantly fed what we "should" look like. Really – 'style' is all about 'sales', and little else. What's in style now will be out of style in a month or two, and then back in style again in a year! It's crazy!

My dad – as a man – has been allowed to age. His head full of white hair (not grey – it's totally white) and his height (6'4") causes people to comment on how "distinguished" he looks. But have that happen to a woman and society treats her like there is something wrong with her.

I noticed my first wrinkle last year. It's a worry line above my nose. I admit, I do worry a bit too much, but we get lots of good wrinkles too (laugh lines, crows feet from lots of squinting smiles, just to name a few).

In my book, a full face of wrinkles usually means a life well lived, loved, and enjoyed.

Taking care of yourself is one thing, but since when were we all supposed to sleep in tupperware?

(Specifically speaking to Kate- give it a couple years. You do weird things when you're divorced less than 5 years.)

Ew Kate is a mess! I hate how we all perceive aging. I wish magazines would stop using photoshop altogether because hello, I'm 26 and even I have wrinkles…it's all a big lie! Eesh!

Oh totally! That woman is a hot mess! I also watched J&K+8 religiously til the last season; I just couldn't take the fakeness of it all by that point, and felt betrayed by them (I know that is pathetic). I cannot bring myself to watch Kate Plus 8 (though I am secretly intrigued). She has gone to hell in a handbasket, and I'm not just talking looks.

I ABSOLUTELY agree about society being way harsh on women as they age. Men become "distinguished" but women become old hags, desperately in need of medical assistance??? WTF?!?

    Right on! Great post!

I thought the surprised look was a face lift? So I assumed she had a botched face lift, not botox. I'm not sure though. I know botox isn't surgery, but rather a procedure. I think that, when done right, it can look great. But I also think there's nothing wrong with ageing. (And if you're afraid of wrinkles – and there's nothing wrong with that – wear sunscreen!)

@Krista: Oh, good point. I'm not sure what procedure or surgery she's had done. The article where I found the picture said it was "botched botox". But in the end, no one but Kate G. really knows what she's done. Either way, it's looking a bit…unnatural.
