Our friends welcomed a baby boy to their family this weekend! He is their first child, and they couldn’t be happier. Most of our friends do not have children yet, so buying the baby gift was a bit of an (mis) adventure for us.

The only time I go to Toys R’ Us is during holiday season to buy my little cousins the frivolous toys their parents won’t buy them. But I have never stepped a pinky toe in the babies portion of the store. Of course, we stupidly went on a Saturday afternoon when the place was overflowing with screaming kids, worn out parents, and the store looked like it had been through a world war.

Enter Babies R’ Us and the Baby Gift Registry. I felt like a fish out of water. “Wait, the registry says she needs nipple cleaners? Where are the nipple cleaners?” And my husband’s like, “Hahaha, nipple cleaners!” Cue my EYE ROLL. I then spent a good ten minutes looking at clothes. Some of the stuff was adorable: little sleepers and matching caps, cute summer dresses, etc. But how many outfits does one kid need that say, “Mommy’s Little Angel” or “Daddy’s Little Slugger” or “I’m Cute” on it?

Luckily, I had peeped her registry online beforehand, and gathered some concrete ideas of what to get. Here’s what we left with…(all items from our friend’s registry)

My Brest Friend Deluxe Wearable Nursing Pillow (10 Gold Stars for having a hilarious name. Can you say it with a straight face? I can’t.)

Diaper Genie II Elite Diaper Disposal System (How very practical of us, but I figure it’s necessary. I mean, the poopy diapers have to go somewhere, no?)

Johnson’s Bathtime Essentials Gift Set (Got this just because it smells soooo good, and I’m a sucker for gift sets.)

I assumed that our friends got a ton of clothes for the little guy, so I tried to find things that they could use daily. I also made sure to buy the items in store. When I went online and checked the registry, I noticed shipping was going to be about $20. Umm, I don’t think so, Babies R’ Us. For that amount, I could buy a whole extra item!

Overall, it was a learning experience. Funny enough, L left the store with even more baby fever than when we started. I left feeling totally unprepared and kind of freaked out over the chaos that would ensue if I were to get pregnant tomorrow.

How’s that biological clock, ladies? Ticking yet?

Overwhelmed like me? Don’t fret, I have a brest friend for you to rest your head on 🙂

I went to Babies R Us for a shower too. While the baby stuff is cute, any chance of fever was killed by a screaming baby. I was like oh gosh, headache!! LOL!
