I am voting No on Prop. 8. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do.

I don’t think I need to get into a long discussion about why, other than the fact that I would never willingly vote to take away another person’s civil rights. I am Japanese American, and my grandparents and relatives know a lot about the denial of civil rights…just read a U.S. history book if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

I decided not to be lazy, so I googled it … it’s such a big deal that it has a whole wikipedia article on it! And now I know the answer.

Hey Krista! I’m sorry, my post was a bit mysterious! If you aren’t from California, Prop.8 is definitely not something you would be familiar with. You’re right… it’s a ballot measure that will ban same sex marriage. It is a very big deal in CA and, scarily, the news media keeps saying that constituents seem to be split 50/50! It’s important to take a stand on this one…and, of course, the presidential election.

It always shocks me that an individual can be so … I don’t know what the word is … ignorant? hateful? judgemental? … to want to prohibit the marriage between two other people that have absolutely no impact on that first individual whatsoever. What difference does it make it my life if two people of the same gender marry? Nothing. And it might actually bring more love into the world.
